Ellen Hallie Schiff, New York

Artist's Statement

An essential truth seems to come alive when I use my body to create my paintings- something visceral and muscular; a directness that feels so “right”. The authentic mark is what I am after; the true, non-gimmicky, not contrived mark; the mark that is made when “I am the painting I am painting”. Playing with the paint, working sometimes at the speed of light, other times slowly and deliberately; all coming together in a flurry of physical activity. The result is an authentic moment in time.

Ali Horeanopoulos, designer, Somerville, 9000 Things

Artist's Statement

I’ve always been interested in sustainability and creating and designing things
I’ve never seen before. The name 9000 Things is a nod to the breadth of things I make.
I’m constantly inspired by found materials—from old wall paper to reclaimed wood
and found industrial objects—so what’s in store depends greatly on what
my brain gravitates toward. From fair trade jewelry to original artwork, each
product is unique and made with heart. Much of my work is inspired by place,
from various communities that I’ve called home, to my love of travel and the daily experience of living in a large and busy city.

Lucy Schappy, Contemporary Canadian Artist

Artist's Statement

Lucy Schappy’s wildly optimistic paintings are a form of visual poetry that express her love of life. Symbols and color resonate together to form a dreamy playground for the heart and mind. Her process is spontaneous and improvisational. Starting each new piece is an adventure that has no known end in sight. The process leads the journey and the outcome is unknown, a conversation evolves on the canvas of question and answer, each mark leading the next in a dance of brush and paint. The resolution of each piece comes at the end of a struggle to find balance and harmony amongst all of the aspects of the visual field.

Audra Hudson, Photographer

Artist's Statement

As far back as I can remember, I was always involved in something creative. The
connection to art, in many forms, has been my driving force for many years and has
lead me back to photography after a long career as a professional dancer.

I love getting lost in nature and capturing everyday art while adding my own visual
twist and unique style. I am equally passionate about engaging with people to evoke
a specific emotion while creating soulful connections that are aligned with a desired
vision. But of course the magic happens in the most spontaneous of moments that are
created on a whim.
